Ghost me

"In the exhibition space, an old phone rings on its own. When you pick up, you hear that a certain Paulo is no longer responding to his best friend. A voicemail then invites you to leave, in turn, a voice message (up to 30 seconds) for someone who isn’t responding to you. You can then randomly listen to 5 of the 82 messages left during the festival."

The installation speaks to our new ways of communicating, using instant messages (WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.). We can, often unintentionally, spy on whether our recipient has received or read our messages. And when someone stops responding, even though it’s so easy to write to each other, we are confronted with a question that amplifies our loneliness: “why aren't you answering me?"

This sound installation brings together these solitudes, this need to give love, and our confusion in the face of the other's silence.
